"Taiko Fun" in February 2006

Japanese Matsuri for Glasgow (JMG) will hold a series of Taiko Fun on four consecutive Saturday afternoons in February.

  • Taiko Fun is for beginners.
  • Children and adults will practice Taiko together.
  • The participants will learn a simplified version of Hounen Mushioi Daiko, an ancient Taiko tune from Central Japan, prepared by Music teacher John Guerrier. JMG are most grateful to Osuwa Taiko Hozonkai for allowing us to use part of the tune they have preserved.
  • With John's guidance, the participants will be encouraged to compose a new Taiko tune collectively.
  • The participants will be encouraged to perform Taiko at the fifth Hina Matsuri, which will be held on Saturday 4th March 2006 at Wellington Church, University Avenue, from 2 to 5 pm.

Venue:
Wellington Church, University Avenue (please enter from a side door in Southpark Avenue.

Dates:
Saturday 4th February from 2 to 4 pm
Saturday 11th February from 2 to 4 pm
Saturday 18th February from 2 to 4 pm
Saturday 25th February from 2 to 4 pm (rehearsal for the performance at Hina Matsuri)

Fees:
For an adult aged 16 +: £5 per session (2 hours)
For a child aged 7 to 15: £2 per session (2 hours)
